Oklahoma dream-pop duo Sports make a radiant comeback with ‘If You Want Me,’ their groove-laden new single that signals the beginning of a fresh era for the band.
Comprised of longtime collaborators Cale Chronister and Christian Theriot, Sports have built a cult following over the last decade with their dreamy alt-pop sound and funk-infused textures. ‘If You Want Me’ is the first release from a forthcoming self-produced and self-recorded project, marking their return to creative autonomy and a deeper connection to their roots.
Constructed in their newly built Tulsa studio, ‘If You Want Me’ began with no chorus—until their manager challenged them to craft something unforgettable. The result is a slick, retro-tinged track with a big, timeless hook, driven by smooth basslines and danceable drums. Lyrically, it reflects a shift toward emotional maturity, acceptance, and relinquishing control.
“‘If You Want Me’ is about choosing love over control. It’s a plea to stop trying to mold someone into our idea of who they should be, and instead accept them exactly as they are. And also wanting the same in return.”
‘If You Want Me’ is available now on your favorite DSP.
