SoundCloud has rolled out a new feature, “Fan Recognition,” designed to help artists identify and highlight their most dedicated supporters.
The feature allows musicians to publicly recognize their top fans directly on their SoundCloud track pages, celebrating the diehards who have supported them from day one and keep coming back for more.
With “Fan Recognition,” artists can showcase two key groups of supporters: First Fans and Top Fans. First Fans are those who listened to and liked a track early on—before anyone else—and they will be displayed in order of plays accumulated during the first week of the song’s release. Top Fans are the listeners who continue to engage with the music time and again, consistently playing it the most.
On the flip side, for fans, the new feature ensures that their support is recognized and memorialized on the track pages of their top artists. It has the feel of a badge of honor for those who have helped fuel the careers of their favorite emerging talent.
By prominently spotlighting fans, SoundCloud is emphasizing the role of superfans in an artist’s growth. The streaming service highlighted data from Luminate’s 2024 Year-End Music Report, which claims that 90% of superfans engage with artists through live performances while 81% amplify their favorite artists “by spreading the word.”
