Hamburg duo Adana Twins are just about to release their new EP, Distant Dream (tomorrow, April 21), a three-track collaboration with French-born producer Darlyn Vlys. Ahead of the full release, they’re today priming fans with the title track, a moody, pulsing synth-pop collab with Kraków Loves Adana, a pair also from Hamburg.
The Twins spent their formative years soaking up their home country’s long history of electronic music before heading out to ply their trade as DJs, producers, A&Rs and eventually label owners. Adana Twins’ own releases had started with more of a focus on house and techno—both of which are still central to their DJ sets—but their output has since evolved into more of a synth-pop-inspired sound, albeit with feet still firmly planted on the dancefloor.
As with the other two tracks, opener “Distant Dream” plays dark, pulsing electronic rhythms against the bright optimism of swelling synth arpeggios for dramatic contrast. Tapping into the emotional potential of the balance between nostalgia and futurism, don’t be surprised if you see Adana Twins scoring soundtracks at some point in the future.
While we wait for all three tracks to hit the usual outlets via their own TAU label, tap into “Distant Dream” exclusively below.
