Rapper Offset is suing label Quality Control over the right to control his solo catalog.

Offset has filed a lawsuit that accuses Quality Control Records of ignoring a deal they made in January 2021. The lawsuit says he negotiated a solo deal with the record label and ‘paid handsomely’ for his artist rights. Now that he’s dropped his latest solo single,” 5 4 3 2 1,” the rapper says Quality Control isn’t honoring that deal.

The rap group Migos has released each of its studio projects through the Quality Control label. Offset’s solo album Father of 4 also came from the label, alongside Motown Records. The single ” 5 4 3 2 1″ was produced by Baby Keem and is credited to Universal Music Group on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.

But the latest filing from Offset says Quality Control is trying to claim ownership over his new material. Offset is looking to drop yet another single featuring Moneybagg Yo on August 26. Quality Control CEO Pierre Thomas has addressed the lawsuit directly via Twitter.

“The last lawsuit was filed publicly and dismissed quietly,” he writes. “Let’s see how this one go. Been to real for all this lame shit. Everyone know the real problem.” Shortly after the tweet went live, Offset had a response ready for him.

“N***as act like I’m the problem I paid millions to get my rights back. N***a you black balled me I ain’t said shit one time homie. I ain’t spoke to you in 2 years now I drop and you want ya name on my credit?” Offset tweeted in reply to the original. Even Cardi B jumped in to defend the rapper on Instagram. “Offset bought himself out of his QC deal after they didn’t want to renegotiate his contract,” Cardi B writes. “I’m tired of people trying to make Offset look like the bad guy. Enough is enough!”

So now that Offset is going solo and Quavo and Takeoff are dropping music together, does that mean Migos is dead? The speculation continues around the rap trio, but reps have denied the group is going their separate ways.
