Montreal indie rock artist Ev Bird has released his debut EP Puff Piece, a laid-back collection of tracks.
Fusing elements from indie rock, jazz, and R&B, Ev Bird’s music is free-flowing. He sings about deteriorating mental health and longing for better days.
“I was in that 2 Star hotel, I was stuck in my cell / Looking like that Samara girl from The Ring that was stuck way down in the well,” Ev sings on the lead single “The Ring.”
“The Ring” also features the project’s only guest verse from Detroit rapper Boldy James.
In a statement, Ev Bird says: “this track, in general, is about the toll that pushing yourself too hard takes on a person. I began to write the song by describing how I looked and felt on any given morning while on tour. As is the album’s theme, the song also deals with mortality and the futility of life.”
Ev Bird produced, mixed, and mastered the entire EP by himself. He released Puff Piece under indie label Royal Mountain Records.
