Mac Miller’s final album, Swimming, released shortly before his death, has been certified double-platinum by the RIAA, commemorating two million units sold as a testament to the artist’s longevity.

Though Mac Miller passed in 2018, his legacy abounds, as evidenced by his final studio album becoming certified double-platinum by the RIAA last week, serving as a testament to the artist’s staying power. On Wednesday, June 7, the RIAA certified the album double-platinum, having been certified platinum for the first time two years prior in February 2021.

“Self Care” from that album has also been certified 5x platinum, another milestone for Mac Miller, whose highest-certified song prior was the 4x platinum Miguel collaboration “Weekend” from GO:OD AM. Blue Slide Park (2011), Watching Movies With the Sound Off (2013),

GO:OD AM (2015) and his posthumous Circles (2020) are all certified gold.

Initially released in August 2018, only a month before Mac Miller passed away from an accidental drug overdose, Swimming is often considered his most significant work. It was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards the year after its release.

Jon Brion, who worked with Miller on Swimming, was asked by Mac’s estate to help finish the album he had been working on at the time of his passing. That album, 2020’s Circles, was released to critical acclaim.

New music from the late rapper is always possible, as Mac Miller left enough material in his vault for another lifetime. Rapper and producer Madlib featured Mac on his Liberation 2 album with Talib Kweli and revealed earlier this year that he’s adding the finishing touches to his long-long Maclib project.

“Right now, I’m finishing up the Mac Miller album,” Madlib said during a recent interview, confirming that it’s the same project reported years ago and that the late rapper’s estate has finally given him the green light to release it.
