Latin boy band CNCO breaks up on stage as the group seeks to go their separate ways.

The announcement was made during Univision’s Premios Juventud award show and more than a year after former member Joel Pimentel departed. Erick Brian Colon, Richard Camacho, Zabdiel de Jesus, and Christopher Velez said the decision was reached amicably. “We are feeling nervous but at the same time, we feel excited, anxious,” Colon shared with Billboard after the news broke.

“We’re ready to try new things,” De Jesus adds, “We always thought that if we split, it had to be natural, and that’s how it happened.”

“We can’t wait to share our new music,” the group told Rolling Stone. “We are doing things that we have never done before and pushing ourselves to create everlasting memories for our fans. This new era is full of surprises. It will be the best you’ve seen from CNCO so far.”

Why did CNCO Break Up?

CNCO was formed through the Univision competition show “La Banda.” The group still has an upcoming tour, Disney+ series, and a new album to release before they officially call it quits. “CNCO opened the doors for us in the industry, and now we have more opportunities to keep writing and meet other people, get into the studio and create new vibes,” Camacho told Billboard about the split up.

It’s hard to keep a group named after having five members going when one has already departed. The group spoke with Teen Vogue about the departure of Joel Pimentel in May 2021 as a sort of harbinger of the break-up.

“Of course we were super sad and even a little mad at the beginning, but at the end of the day, we want him happy so we support him, you know?” the quartet replied when asked about their feelings on his departure. “We love him and he will always be our brother.”
