Celebs pay tribute to ‘greatest voice’

Irish legend Sinéad O’Connor has died at the age of 56, her “devastated” family confirmed Wednesday.

Her passing comes 18 months after the January 2022 suicide of her 17-year-old son, Shane.

She tweeted at the time: “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.

“May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

O’Connor’s family said in a statement Wednesday: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

Tributes have been pouring in for the “Nothing Compares 2 U” crooner from fans and celebrities across social media.

“Outlander” star Caitríona Balfe said onInstagram: “I hope you are at peace … and with your baby boy. Thank you for sharing your soul with us and soothing us with your incredible voice beautiful Sinéad. 💔 RIP.”

“What About Men?” author Caitlin Moran wrote: “Oh my God — Sinead. THE greatest voice of her generation, no contest … She was decades before her time, and fearless. Rest in power, queen.”

Rapper and actor Ice-T tweeted: “Respect to Sinead … She stood for something … Unlike most people … Rest Easy..”

Country singer Jason Isbell tweeted: “I hope there’s peace for Sinéad at last.”

“RIP Sinead O’Connor. 56 is way too young 💔,” one person tweeted.

“Farewell to one of the greatest Irish musicians of all time,” a fan wrote. “Gone way too young. RIP Sinead.”

Another said: “Sinead O’Connor was a trailblazer. Fearless, uncompromising & a superlative talent. Proved to be ahead of her time, again & again. Her passing at 56 is a devastating loss.”

One emotional fan chimed in: “A great Irish poet and singer left us today. She was beautiful, courageous and wore her heart on her sleeve. She was before her time. Nothing will ever compare to Sinéad O’Connor. Rest easy Sinéad.”
