Australian singer/songwriter, Benji Lewis teams up with producer Tom Eggert to release a rousing and spirited EP, Floating.
Melbourne singer/songwriter has been on our radar for some time. We first heard the smooth falsetto of the Australian indie musician back in November of 2021 when he released ‘Unwind.’ At the time, we enjoyed the “dreamy, chilled, and atmospheric track” as it kicked off the Australian summer with a splash. Since then, he has released two additional tracks (‘Head Rush’ and ‘Jump This Train’), which are included on the EP.
Those tracks combined with two additional unreleased tracks (‘Dreamer’ and ‘A Memory’) as well as a spoken-word interlude (‘That First Day’) round out the 5-track EP. Together, the EP highlights the personal turmoil that Lewis was going through during the writing sessions. Produced by long-time friend Tom Eggert, Floating was just what Benji needed to turn things around, “Last year (2021) was pretty heavy at times for me, as I’m sure it was for many of you as well, there was just so much going on that we just had to deal with and try to get through each day as it came.”
He goes on to describe the cathartic relief of spending time with a friend in familiar surroundings:
“Getting in the studio with Tom Eggert (a friend and great producer based in sunny Brisbane, Australia) was just what I needed. Throughout that week or so of writing this EP, we had many laughs, lots of good coffee, a few beers here and there… and shared lots of stories and memories that were close to us both.”
Knowing that he’s not alone, Benji’s parting thoughts shed some light on what he hopes the listener can take away after listening to Floating, “I hope that these songs can give you some comfort in knowing you’re not alone. We all go through difficult moments throughout our lives, but we get through them, and it does get better.”
Floating is available on all streaming services today, June 16, 2022.
