BADBADNOTGOOD, Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine Share “MiNt cHoCoLaTe”

BADBADNOTGOOD have joined forces with Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine to release the new single, “MiNt cHoCoLaTe,” and an accompanying music video. The track marks the first release from RCA Records and 88rising’s new project 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE, which is described in a press release as a music collective and multimedia experience.

The collaboration marks the first time that the Toronto jazz collective has teamed up with the Buffalo-based MCs — which may come as a surprise given how smoothly the acts’ styles gel together. Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine lay down their deft lyricism with a laidback flow over an entrancing downtempo beat featuring an easy bassline, pattering percussion, and a soulful flute at the lead.

The single’s music video sees the track dubbed over an elementary school talent show performance in the California suburbs by a suit and tie-clad collective of youngsters known as “Ryan and the Destroyers.” Fade-ins of the band practicing tirelessly paint a portrait of dedication and dreaming.

Earlier this year, BADBADNOTGOOD linked up with Turnstile for a collaborative EP titled New Heart Designs. Meanwhile, WSG released his purported final studio album, And Then You Pray for Me, in October, and Conway the Machine’s latest solo full-length, Won’t He Do It, dropped in May.
