Mac DeMarco Announces Instrumental LP 'Five Easy Hot Dogs'

Today, indie-rocker Mac DeMarco shared he will release a new album titled Five Easy Hot Dogs, on Jan. 20, with vinyl editions following on May 12. The album is comprised of instrumentals and was recorded during a 2022 road trip from Los Angeles to a cabin in Utah.

The project was created while DeMarco was “kind of” on tour, “except there weren’t any shows.” Each of the project’s song titles corresponds to the cities where they were made – in total there are 14 tracks. The musician expanded on his process in a press release, writing, “Some places I stayed longer in than others, some of them I knew from the past, others not so much. I tried to keep things busy all the time. If I didn’t know what was up in a city, I’d just walk around ‘til someone recognized me and go from there. I met a lot of interesting people this way, and had a bunch of cool experiences.”

DeMarco also shared about his experience in the cabin: “Some places I stayed longer in than others, some of them I knew from the past, others not so much. I tried to keep things busy all the time. If I didn’t know what was up in a city, I’d just walk around ‘til someone recognized me and go from there. I met a lot of interesting people this way, and had a bunch of cool experiences.”

Five Easy Hot Dogs marks DeMarco’s first full release since 2019 LP Here Comes the Cowboy. He also has stayed busy by releasing his annual Christmas cover and recently joined Domi & JD Beck on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on their performance of “TWO SHRiMPS.”
