Jay-Z has scored another win in his lawsuit with Parlux Fragrances, which partnered with the rapper in 2013 to launch its “Gold Jay-Z” cologne.
The New York Post reports Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Andrew Borrok on Thursday ordered the perfume company to pay Jay-Z $6.78 million in unpaid royalties, including interest.
“We’ve been awarded and will be receiving the money as we should,” Jay’s lawyer Alex Spiro told the outlet.
Parlux has filed an appeal on Borrok’s ruling.
The news comes six months after an appellate court determined Hov was entitled to receive $4.5 million in royalties from Parlux, ruling that Jay and his company were “entitled to summary judgment on their royalties counterclaim.”
Back in November, a Manhattan jury cleared Jay in his trial with Parlux, after jurors found that the hip-hop mogul was not liable for the $67.6 million in requested damages. The jury also rejected Hov’s roughly $6 million countersuit over unpaid royalties.
“You failed to prove your case, they failed to prove their case,” Borrok said at the time. “You’re excused,” he told the jury.
Last year’s three-week trial came nearly six years after Parlux sued Jay in January of 2016, accusing him and his S. Carter Enterprises of costing the company millions by breaching the terms of their agreement. Among the claims were that Jay refused to show up to events to promote the cologne.
