Metallica have teamed with Yousician for a new series of courses that let fans and aspiring guitarists play alongside the band members themselves.
It’s the closest you can get to actually jamming with Metallica, as James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett guide players through a total of 10 guitar-focused courses on riffs, lead, and rhythm. Think Guitar Hero, but with an emphasis on learning the actual guitar parts to some of Metallica’s most iconic songs: “Enter Sandman,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “One,” “Fade to Black,” “Master of Puppets,” and more.
The tutorials from Hetfield and Hammett offer unprecedented insight into some of Metallica’s signature elements (Hetfield’s style of downpicking, how to double string bend, etc.). In addition, Yousician’s proprietary AI technology provides real-time feedback to the user. Perhaps you play a sloppy lead during the intro to “One”: The app will pinpoint the miscue so you can work on perfecting it.
The courses also include interviews with the four members of Metallica. Here, the band breaks down its creative process, practicing techniques, pre-show rituals, and the daily life of being in Metallica.
