Country music star Conner Smith posted video of himself behind wheel before ‘hitting and killing woman walking dog’

COUNTRY star Conner Smith shared a video of himself singing while driving – just weeks before he collided into an elderly woman.

Smith, 24, hit dog walker Dorothy Dobbins, 77, as she was crossing the road in Nashville on Sunday.

Cops are yet to file any charges in relation to the accident and said the singer wasn’t under the influence or distracted.

Weeks before the accident, Smith shared a video where he was behind the wheel of his truck singing.

In the short clip shared on Facebook and Instagram, he was seen driving with one hand on the wheel and was wearing casual attire.

“Coming to a summer near you… hopefully,” he posted.

“You tell me bout Alabama making me fall in love with a place that I always thought I hated,” he belted out.

“You can say it’s a lie but I’ve never seen nothing quite like your eyes on these sunburned streets.”

In the clip, Smith appears to be teasing the release of his next track.

Smith, from Nashville, was driving his Chevrolet Silverado truck when he crashed into Dobbins.

She was walking her dog at the time of the accident and was in a marked crosswalk.

Dobbins was rushed to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.

Nashville cops revealed that the investigation remains ongoing.

Smith hasn’t commented on the accident, but days prior to the collision, he performed at the CMA Fest 2025 event in the city.

He was pictured singing alongside fellow singer-songwriter Dylan Marlowe.

And, his last Instagram post was captioned: “Hometown hits different.”

RISING MUSIC STAR

Smith burst onto the music scene with his 2021 track I Hate Alabama, which went viral on TikTok.

He told Taste of Country that the song is about a girl, but admitted he didn’t write it.

Songwriters Drew Green, Hunter Phelps, Lee Starr, and Nick Columbia wrote the track.

Smith, an avid sports fan, also revealed that the track was about football.

“This song is lightning in a bottle. It’s just a great song,” he said.

“But also, it’s a song about college football.”

And, he was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year in that year’s Academy of Country Music Awards.

The music video of his song Creek Will Rise has racked up more than 62 million plays on Spotify.

Smith released the track on October 8 – the day before Alabama was defeated by Texas A&M.

“The timing of the Alabama loss was just really wild,” Smith told The Tuscaloosa News.

Smith released his first album Smoky Mountains in January 2024.

The crooner is touring across the US this summer.

He’s set to perform in Fort Myers, Florida, Akron, Ohio, and Columbus, Ohio, later this month.

Smith, who wrote is first song at six, is also due to perform at the Mid-America Music Festival in Trenton, Missouri, in July.

He starred alongside Marlowe as part of the Did We Just Become Best Friends? tour.

The tour kicked off on April 2 in Columbia, South Carolina.

Smith’s track Steal My Thunder, which featured Tucker Wetmore, is part of the album for the action thriller flick Twisters.

He has 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
