The glimpses into Lavigne and Swift’s friendship we’ve been getting aren’t limited to flower petals!

The door is open for the duo, who have performed live on stage together during Swift’s “1989” tour, to possibly explore a collaboration together.

Not only was Lavigne charmed by her friend’s gift, she expressed interest in the idea of collaborating in a recent Us Weekly interview.

Lavigne said, “I’d love to work with Taylor. She’s amazing. I respect her so much as a songwriter and as an artist.”

Lavigne knows a thing or two about songwriting. The now 37-year-old singer burst into the music scene and into the collective conscious in 2002, with the release of her debut album “Let Go.”

Along with many of her own songs, Lavigne has written memorable songs for other artists.

She famously penned “Breakaway” for Kelly Brianne, (formerly Clarkson), which became a giant hit after it was released on her career-defining sophomore album of the same name and featured on the “Princess Diaries II: Royal Engagement” soundtrack!

Even casual fans of Swift are aware of the role songwriting has played in her career, and how it has lead her to become one of the most well-known musicians of a generation.

Lavigne and Swift both made a name for themselves by not holding back and expressing their feelings in their respective songwriting methods.

Critical Darlings

Even as a teen, Lavigne was extremely involved in the songwriting process for her debut album; She is listed as a co-writer on every track.

Lavigne has been vocal before about how she had been perceived in conjunction with her desire to have control over her songwriting.

She recently recalled an early songwriting experience while in the process of recording her debut album. She told i News UK, “[Older male producers] tried to give me songs and I hated that. I would come into the studio with my guitar and my notepad, and people didn’t want to listen to me. They were like: ‘You don’t even know what you’re doing.”

Swift followed in Lavigne’s footsteps as a teen when she achieved a milestone many songwriters don’t reach until they have several albums or songs to their name; She wrote her third album, “Speak Now”, by herself!

Swift, too, has had to deal with critics of her songwriting who are still skeptical of what she is doing.

Recently, critically acclaimed songwriter and member of Blur, Damon Albarn criticized, and later attempted to retract, Swift’s songwriting abilities.

These days Swift and Lavigne remain unbothered and busy doing what they do best: continuing to create music, regardless of critical reception.

Lavigne’s most recent LP “Love Sux” contains 12 pop-punk influenced tunes, with Lavigne’s signature penchant for plenty of fun and punchy guitar-driven songs.

Swift continues to release the re-recorded versions of her first six studio albums, the most recent being her 2012 LP “Red.”

Swift’s devoted fanbase have been hard at work on social media trying to figure out which album she will re-release next; for now we can only dream of a duet between Avril Lavigne and Taylor Swift turning up on a future T. Swift vault track!
