Anya Taylor-Joy, known for her series The Queen’s Gambit, is one of the rising stars in Hollywood who is all set to appear in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga this year. The actress is also a part of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi drama Dune: Part Two. Her involvement in the film was unknown to the fans until she attended the film’s premiere in London. She is working with such great makers and getting to be a part of such iconic franchises; it would not have been possible if she hadn’t run away from her house at fourteen.
The actress was born in 1996 and lived in Buenos Aires with her parents till the age of six. After that, her family moved to London, where she had difficulty adjusting, and she refused to learn English, hoping her parents would take Anya back to Argentina. While speaking on The HFPA In Conversation podcast, Anya Taylor-Joy revealed that she once ran away from the house. She was reportedly living her life like her character Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit, and she stumbled upon an opportunity out of nowhere, but that is a story for some other time. Speaking of her escape to New York, the Dune 2 actress said, “I ran away to New York at 14. I was having a really bad time at school, and I wanted to be an actor. So, I enrolled in a director’s program, and I got in. “
Anya Taylor-Joy explained, “I came down to go to school one day, and I said to my parents, ‘Look, I’m not going to school. I’ve saved up enough money to buy myself a plane ticket to New York. I’m going to do this, and you can either be a part of it with me, or I’m just going to go do it by myself.’”
Fortunately for the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga actress, her parents did not oppose her decision as she called them amazing for having her back.
On the professional front, Anya Taylor-Joy plays the role of Furiosa in the prequel, which Charlize Theron initially played. Anya will be playing the younger version of the character, and the movie is about to hit the screens in May this year.
She will also appear in Dune 2; nothing has been revealed about Anya’s role. The fans would have to wait a few more days to catch her in this epic saga. Timothee Chalamet-led Dune: Part Two will be released in the theatres on March 1, 2024.
