Watch the Trailer for Rob Zombie’s THE MUNSTERS

Remember when we all heard that Rob Zombie, the director of Night of 1,000 Corpses, and the Halloween remake was doing a Munsters reboot for the big screen? We were expecting something a lot grittier. But Zombie and Universal Pictures have just released the first teaser trailer for their cinematic reimaging of The Munsters, and it is surprisingly traditional. In fact, it is an almost exact recreation of the original 1960s series’ opening credits. And yes, it includes the iconic surf-guitar theme song.

You can watch the full teaser trailer for The Munsters right here:

The movie stars Jeff Daniel Phillips as family patriarch Herman Munster and Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster. Playing the part of Grandpa Munster is Dan Roebuck. The teaser doesn’t actually show two other iconic members of the family, son Eddie Munster, and cousin Marilyn. But Zombie has assured fans they are indeed in the film.

The original cast members who played Marilyn and Eddie, Pat Priest and Butch Patrick, will also appear. The cast also has two horror icons: Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and Dee Wallace, star of The Howling and Cujo. Maybe the movie will finally explain how a Frankenstein monster met a vampiric bride and had a werewolf baby. Or how the heck they even have a human-looking relative.

We’ve actually already had two Munsters reboots. There was The Munsters Today, which aired in the late ’80s/early ’90s. That show was a sequel to the original, with new actors in the roles. Then, Bryan Fuller made a total reinvention of the franchise called Mockingbird Lane. This had a rather impressive cast, but only made it to pilot stage. NBC only aired it as a one-time Halloween special. Interestingly, Rob Zombie looks to be sticking to classic Munsters far more than NBC did.

The Munsters will be released in theaters sometime this fall.
