Bethany Cosentino catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about her debut solo album, Natural Disaster.
The Best Coast singer talks about keeping the album a secret for the past few years and why it was time to put her band on indefinite hiatus. She also touches on finding her new voice, her current musical direction, and writing an album about self-discovery — something she also talked about on our Consequence UNCUT podcast and interview.
Cosentino also discusses how she leaned into the sound of her ’90s heroes, like Counting Crows, Sheryl Crow, REM, and Liz Phair. Elsewhere, she reveals that Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Garbage’s Shirley Manson are close friends that she often goes to for encouragement and guidance.
“Hayley Williams of Paramore is a really good friend of mine, and I met her when she was, like, 19,” Cosentino explains. “And she’s a person I consistently go to when I’m feeling horrible imposter syndrome or anxiety or whatever.”
