Arguably the most famous band to ever come out of Omaha, Nebraska… 311 … just performed their first Tiny Desk Concert for NPR and it is pure, uncut millennial nostalgia. And they did it in honor of 3/11 day today!

311 is one of those bands that I think a lot of us have always been a fan of even if we weren’t acutely aware of it at the time. They make hits. They’ve been making hits since they formed way back in 1988 even if they didn’t see major commercial success until the mid-to-late 90s. And it’s undeniable their music resonates with millennials more than other generations because of how omnipresent their songs were around the turn of the century.

311’s Tiny Desk Concert

Monday isn’t typically the high point of the week but this 311 Tiny Desk Concert sort of flips that conventional wisdom on its head. The set list is 4 tracks: ‘Beautiful Disaster,’ ‘All Mixed Up,’ ‘Amber,’ and ‘Down.’ It’s only 16 minutes from start to finish but a very enjoyable listen for people who were in high school when Carson Daly was hosting TRL:

First impression: Nick Hexum on vocals and guitar simply does not look 53 years old.

Second impression: They all sound incredible still but that should be expected for a band who has been together for decades.

Third: …time to go look up some tour dates… Aaand they’re in Europe for most of June but then have a ton of US tour dates queued up. After scrolling through the dates, I’m eyeballing the August 13th show at the Firefly Distillery in Charleston. Why not? That’d be an amazing show while downing Fireball like it’s 15 years ago, right?
