Play ball! The cast of The Sandlot took to the diamond once more for a charity softball game. Coming as part of a two-day event, the game took place in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where the classic film’s direct/writer/narrator David Mickey Evans calls home.
Few casts of coming-of-age classics are as close-knit as the Sandlot crew. Known for their frequent dinner gatherings, the actors spent much of 2023 together as they marked the film’s 30th anniversary. There were TV appearances, special screenings, and they even took the field at a real MLB stadium. As TMZ reports, the year-long celebration was capped off with the December 15th-16th event in FL.
Marty “Yeah-Yeah” York, Tom “Smalls” Guiry, Victor “Timmy Timmons” DiMattia, Shane “Tommy ‘Repeat’ Timmons” Obedzinski, and Grant “Weeks” Gelt were all on hand for the gathering, as was Evans himself. In addition to the big game, there were screenings, meet-and-greets, and photo ops.
The whole thing was to benefit the Table 2 Committee nonprofit in their work to support local youth sports programs. Check out some images and video from the weekend below, with more over at TMZ.
Reunions like this may be all we can hope for from The Sandlot crew, as Disney+ has reportedly stopped development on the planned sequel series that was set to take place in the ’80s.
