Marvel’s First Family—all of them, not just one spaghettified Reed Richards Variant—is finally ready to join the MCU. And today they took one big step towards becoming a part of cinema’s most popular franchise. After a lengthy countdown, the famous superhero team blasted off with the first official trailer for Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps. And this intense, heart-filled promo makes one thing clear: whatever comes their Fantastic Four will deal with it as a family.
The Future Foundation launched a movie MCU fans have waited a very long time to see. After an hour+ long countdown of “fantastic” news coverage that included retro ’60s-style graphics, the sounds of mission control, shots of used space travel-related items and training equipment, and an appearance by the cast themselves at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, all systems were a go. And boy did this trailer go.
It also told us more than first trailers usually do. It reveals the movie will begin with the Fantastic Four already famous for being superheroes in their universe and time period, a more technologically advanced ’60s. But their celebrity and abilities don’t guarantee their world’s safety. A brief shot of Galactus looms over New York City. How will they deal with such a big threat? Sue Storm makes clear to Reed that them, Johnny, and Ben will handle things the way they always have: as a family.
This trailer’s tone and focus should make Fantastic Four fans very happy. This might be the big screen version of the team they’ve always wanted to see.
