Last week, we brought you the story that two-time Oscar-nominated actor Jonah Hill was reportedly in talks to play the infamous “Bad Boy of golf” John Daly in an upcoming biopic.
“The biopic will examine the excesses, scandals, and athletic achievements of the PGA Tour golfer, who is considered by many to be the Bad Boy of Golf,” the report said of the project.
During a recent on-the-greens interview with the Golf Channel — and an interviewer who apparently doesn’t know who Jonah Hill is — Daly shared his thoughts on the project and Hill’s potential casting for the first time.
John Daly addresses reports of two-time Best Supporting Actor nominee Jonah Hill playing him in a movie for the first time
“We think that was kind of a leak,” Daly said about the reports of the two-time Academy Award nominuee playing him in an upcoming biopic apparently titled The Bad Boy of Golf.
“We’ve been working on it for almost two years now and we thought we had it but there’s some thing we’ve got to work out. So, I don’t know if that was a leak or… I think it was a leak. We’re still working on it. But hopefully, soon, we’ll get something done.
When asked if he was in favor of Hill portraying him in a movie, Daly seemed to be all on board, especially due to Hill’s apparent passion for the project:
“He wants it really bad,” Daly said of Hill. “And the way me and him have fluctuated with weight in our lives — and no disrespect to him because I love him, I love him as an actor, but I’m sure I’m going to love him as a friend too if we get this done. He wants it bad and I think he’d be great. I’m going to have to get him on the driving range and see how far he can take the club back, and if he can do that then he’s all set.”
After laying low for a couple of years, Hill has begun ramping his acting career back up recently as he starred in Adam McKay’s Best Picture-nominated Don’t Look Up in late 2021, has a new Netflix film titled You People (alongside the likes of Eddie Murphy and Julia Louis-Dreyfus) coming out next year, and he’s also set to star as beloved Grateful Dead rocker Jerry Garcia in an upcoming Martin Scorsese-helmed biopic.
