If you’re an avid follower of unidentified flying object (UFO) news, you’re likely aware of a news story that captured headlines earlier in the week.
In short, multiple news outlets reported on a new paper featuring some big names in the field of astrophysics. The topic? Whether our planet was about to be struck by an alien probe.
On July 1, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) discovered an object speeding through the inner solar system at 140,000 miles per hour. The agency called this object 3I/ATLAS, and it immediately attracted the attention of researchers.
Three of those researchers responded to this discovery with a paper titled, “Is the Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS Alien Technology?”
In their paper, researchers Adam Hibberd, Adam Crowl, and Abraham Loeb posit that there’s a chance, however faint, that 3I/ATLAS is actually an alien craft.
As evidence, they cite the fact that there are very few similarly observed objects out there as well as the craft’s route, which appears non-random.
All of this may sound familiar to experienced ufologists. After all, someone predicted all of this happening about six months ago—or did they?
Did A UFO Expert Predict The Recent Alien News?
In a TikTok video with over 1.4 million views, TikTok user @paranormaldirective13 explains that the recent news about 3I/ATLAS shouldn’t come as a surprise—especially if one has been listening to a ufologist named Jeremy Corbell.
According to this clip from Corbell, which appears to be taken from a YouTube channel that cut a clip from a TUBI show entitled “TMZ Presents: UFO Revolution,” the idea that the Earth will soon be reached by an alien craft is simply one of the “lies” that “your government now wants you to know.” He further says that this supposed event would be happening relatively soon.
TikToker @paranormaldirective13 looks at this clip, which was released at the end of 2024, and comes to the conclusion that Corbell must be referring to 3I/ATLAS.
“This isn’t disclosure. This is the setup,” the TikToker states. “If Corbell is right, we are watching the playbook unfold in real time. The question really is, if the craft is the lie, then what is already here or happening?”
Is Any Of This Real?
Is there an object called 3I/ATLAS speeding in our direction? Yes. Is it an alien craft? Almost certainly not.
In their paper, Hibberd, Crowl, and Loeb state that this is “largely a pedagogical exercise.” They even admit that “by far the most likely outcome will be that 3I/ATLAS is a completely natural interstellar object, probably a comet.”
Other scientists aren’t on board with this “alien craft” theory. Many noted that the object behaves very much like a comet. While there are some unique elements to it, other aspects, like the presence of water ice, indicate that this is likely a comet.
Additionally, it’s incorrect to say that Corbell predicted this. Later in the same clip featured by the TikToker, Corbell states that the government will likely make such a claim in 2027, whereas the claim was made in 2025. That said, he notes that the specifics around the details of the events and dates may change now that he’s revealed it. However, this effectively renders his prediction meaningless.
There are other problems with his prediction as well. First, the “space probe” idea is not presented by NASA or another government agency. It was invented by several scientists as a theoretical exercise. And NASA’s own website identifies 3I/ATLAS as a comet that “poses no threat to Earth and will remain far away.”
Second, this isn’t even the first time that one of the scientists involved in this paper has claimed a foreign object could be an alien craft, only for the research community to not go along with this idea. Loeb has previously written a book discussing whether 1I/ʻOumuamua, another interstellar object, could also be of intelligent extraterrestrial origin. Other scientists view this theory to be unlikely.
In summary, no, the existence of aliens has not been confirmed, nor will they be paying us a visit anytime soon (as far as we know).
Commenters Are Convinced
Despite this, commenters remained convinced that something inexplicable was afoot. Though some admitted they just aren’t equipped at the moment to deal with it.
“Aliens are the least of my worries right now,” wrote a user.
“Why would it be slowly coming to earth when they can travel in milliseconds?” questioned another.
“They know the rapture is imminent! They need a story to explain where people went!” declared a further TikToker.
