Twitch CEO Dan Clancy believes the launch of GTA 6 will be a “little strange” for the streaming platform and believes GTA 5 will remain popular for a pretty big reason.
At the start of May, Rockstar Games confirmed the news that Grand Theft Auto fans were fearing as they delayed GTA 6’s launch until May 26, 2026.
Some rival developers would, naturally, be pleased about that news, giving them a window to launch before GTA 6 drops. Others, though, are now having to consider switching their future launches to avoid the highly anticipated game.
For Twitch, the delay keeps the focus on one of their most popular categories – Grand Theft Auto 5 – as Dan Clancy believes the new game will be a “little strange” at first because it won’t have GTA RP attached.
GTA RP will still reign when GTA 6 launches
The Twitch boss was speaking to The Game Business live and was asked about the delay to the highly anticipated title. Clancy noted he was personally disappointed because, like everyone else, he wants to play it.
“The interesting thing was it was going to be a little strange because whenever it does come out, it’s coming out on the console and roleplay will not be part of the initial launch,” he said, noting that roleplay is a “big part” of GTA’s success on Twitch.
“So, GTA V will still interestingly be popular on Twitch even as everyone’s playing GTA 6 for a while, so I will find the whole GTA space very interesting as six comes out and then as it adds PC play and roleplay.”
Timestamp of 12:50
The integration of GTA RP in the new game has been a hot topic for a while, with some leaks claiming that Rockstar is working on their own thing.
As of now, that hasn’t been confirmed, and it would be a wait until the PC launch anyway.
So, while GTA 6 might shoot to the top of Twitch, GTA V won’t be far off either.
