The first official look at Nicolas Cage as legendary NFL head coach and broadcast John Madden and Christian Bale as former Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis in the Madden biopic has been released.
Madden is set to be directed by divisive filmmaker David O. Russell, known for his work on movies such as Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees, The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook, and American Hustle.

In addition to the Academy Award-winning duo of Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale as Madden and Davis, respectively, Madden is also set to star John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hawhn as Virginia Madden, and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis.
According to Amazon MGM Studios, “the film follows Madden’s remarkable journey—from his Super Bowl-winning partnership with Al Davis and the Raiders, to creating Madden NFL, and becoming one of the most iconic voices in football history.”
Madden, which is currently under production in Atlanta, Georgia, does not have an official release date. Given that filming is currently underway, however, there is a chance it’s ready for a 2025 holiday season release.
His lead role in the John Madden is the latest stage of Cage’s late-career renaissance, which began with some of the best reviews of his career for his work in the 2021 film Pig.
After spending about a decade making forgettable B-movies, Cage has returned to mainstream Hollywood filmmaking in recent years with roles in films such as The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Renfield, Dream Scenario, and Longlegs.
Next year, he’ll also star in the live-action Spider-Noir series on Prime Video, which had its incredibly noir-authentic-looking teaser leaked earlier this week.
