I Reviewed Old Navy’s New Athleticwear — Best Life

Old Navy High-Waisted StudioSmooth Straight Legging

I recently took Old Navy’s new StudioSmooth line for a test run—and dare I say, the athleisure wear is comfier than any pajamas I’ve ever owned. The collection is made from buttery-soft fabric that Old Navy says is the brand’s lightest, softest, and most weightless material to date. As a frequent Old Navy shopper, I concur. From lounging at home to hilly walks around Central Park to studio workout classes, I put these pieces through the ringer. Here’s my full review.

1. High-Waisted StudioSmooth Straight Legging

I would work, eat, and sleep in these leggings if I could—they’re that comfortable. Like everything in the StudioSmooth line, they’re made from a blend of 82 percent nylon and 18 percent spandex. They’re buttery soft, and their straight-leg silhouette offers some structure without feeling too restricting.

During the testing period, I wore them for 12 hours straight, and not once did the waistband roll down. I’ve worn them around the house and on long neighborhood walks without any issues. My only gripe is that they don’t have side pockets. But considering they’re $73 cheaper than Lululemon’s flare pants, I’ll happily stash my keys and phone in a belt bag instead.

2. High-Waisted StudioSmooth 7/8 Leggings

The StudioSmooth 7/8 leggings also feel like slipping into your favorite pair of pajamas. Old Navy says they’re designed with four-way stretch for maximum movement and comfort, and it’s obvious from the way they seamlessly move with you, whether tinkering around the house or doing a studio workout.

After a few wears, I did notice myself yanking at the waistband. I’ll probably be more selective about when I wear them, especially in terms of high-intensity workouts. But as far as lounging at home, long walks, or running out for coffee, they’re a great option. Plus, they’re a cheaper dupe (by $69!) for Athleta’s Salutation Stash High Rise 7/8 Legging.

3. Light Support StudioSmooth Crop Top

Although it’s fitted, I still found the StudioSmooth crop top breathable. I paired it with the aforementioned straight-leg leggings as well as biker shorts. The crop top has a built-in bra. However, if you’re someone who needs extra support up top, either prepare to double-up on sports bras or nix it from your gym clothes rotation.

Either way, at just $33, it’s still a more affordable option than the workout crop tops sold at Lululemon, which go for $50 or more.

4. Light Support StudioSmooth Longline Sports Bra

The StudioSmooth longline sports bra is the epitome of throw-on-and-go. It offers enough coverage and has a built-in, lightweight, supportive bra. However, the straps aren’t adjustable, which I found to be confining, along with the built-in bra (as someone who does need a lot of support). But if you like this kind of style, I could see it being an ideal top for yoga, pilates, stretching, or running errands.

Priced at $30, it’s an amazing dupe for Athleta’s Transcend Scoop Built-In Bra Tank A-C, which retails for $59. In fact, you could snag two tops for the price of one—the blue color is perfect for spring/summer!

5. StudioSmooth Crop Full Zip

There are so many things I love about the StudioSmooth full-zip jacket that I don’t know where to begin. It has thumbholes for starters, and I like how the jacket hits right at my waist. The cropped silhouette doesn’t hinder the jacket’s fit, though I do recommend sizing up if you prefer a more oversized look.

The zip-up is described as “go-dry,” meaning it’s made from moisture-wicking fabric that repels sweat while also keeping you cool and dry. No armpit stains here! Plus, it’s super soft like the rest of the StudioSmooth collection.

Best of all, it’s $68 cheaper than cropped jackets similarly sold at Lululemon.
