Football star Alphonso Davies wants to race IShowSpeed, but it might be a while

IShowSpeed holds a trophy at the Sidemen Charity Football Match.

Canadian football player Alphonso Davies is the latest pro athlete to challenge IShowSpeed to a footrace — but it’ll be a while before these two can compete with each other.

IShowSpeed has become one of the internet’s most popular streamers thanks to his high-energy broadcasts, viral travels abroad and, of course, his eye-popping feats of athleticism.

In fact, Speed has become somewhat synonymous with backflipping, having attempted to break the world record for most backflips in 24 hours, and even jumped over two oncoming sports cars in a stunt that took over social media.

In response, several high-profile athletes have chummily challenged the YouTuber to face off against them, usually in the form of a footrace.

IShowSpeed’s athleticism came in handy at the 2025 Sidemen Charity Football Match, which his team won.

Most notably, Speed managed to (mostly) keep pace with Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles in late 2024, and has since been in talks for a race against Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill for the last few months.

Now, Canadian football star Alphonso Davies has thrown his name into the hat, bringing up the possibility of a race with Speed during an April 2025 Twitch stream.

“Speed, my brother, if you’re watching, I appreciate you. Bro, we still gotta do the race. We can’t do it right now, but when I’m back healthy, when I’m back fully fit and can run again, we gotta do the race.”

Currently, Davies is recovering from a torn ACL after a match against the United States’ National Team on March 24. However, that isn’t stopping him from making big plans when he recovers.

Speed reacted to Davies’ challenge during a stream of his own, remarking about the footballer’s injury and suggesting they play an online game of FIFA, instead.

For Speed’s part, he’s proven that he can keep up with some of the best, even beating Australian football player Callum Brown in a 50-meter race last year.

The streamer’s boastful attitude toward pro athletes has become somewhat of a meme, even getting referenced in his commercial with Dick’s Sporting Goods, where he claimed he could outdo Olympic gymnast Sunisa Lee `and football cornerback Travis Hunter.
