The Sidemen have been challenged for a future charity match by a brand-new team, and it might not be one that fans are expecting.
Since 2016, The Sidemen have hosted their almost annual charity football match, raising millions for charity. While different content creators have been invited over the years, the two teams remain the same – Sidemen FC and YouTube All-Stars. It’s a bit like the Harlem Globetrotters always playing the Washington Generals.
The games have been played in front of packed-out crowds, including the most recent game, which was held at Wembley with 90,000 fans in attendance.
There has been increased attention on the game as a result of them selling Wembley out, with a number of footballers chiming in on it.
Gary Neville & The Overlap want to play The Sidemen
It was something that was brought to former Manchester United star Gary Neville’s attention, and he suggested playing himself next year. But, it wouldn’t be for the YouTube All-Stars or Sidemen.
“I’ve just thought about this, we need to get an Overlap team together and go play them at Wembley next year, he said on his It’s Called Soccer podcast.
“You think they’ll beat us? I don’t know, I’m asking the question. Are they good, these guys? Sidemen, come and get us!”
Neville reeled off some of the names that he could call upon for his squad, including Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Wayne Rooney, and Ian Wright.
“Overlap and guests, we could be an amazing sort of team for them to play against, couldn’t we? Let’s get it on! Why not?” he added.
If it was to go ahead, you’d think that The Sidemen would have to rope in some of the talented footballers that typically play for YouTube All-Stars, just to level the playing field a bit.
Plus, it would be interesting to see IShowSpeed going up against Jamie Carragher on the pitch following their recent beef over his footballing skills.
