Mac McDonald may famously spend his days scheming, scamming and plotting with the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Gang — and for a fleeting, extortion-filled moment, Abbott Elementary principal Ava Coleman — but the Sheriff of Paddy’s Pub may now be applying his ocular pat-down skills to another endeavor: Hunting down the island that hosts the deadly games in Squid Games’ second season.
On Monday, Redditor Lil_Melon87 headed to the It’s Always Sunny subreddit to share a major takeaway from their watch of Squid Game’s newly-released second season — Mac sure looks a lot like amateur investigator Choi Woo-seok.
Don’t Miss
“I was watching Squid Game season 2, and I couldn’t stop calling this guy Korean Mac,” Lil_Melon87 captioned two screengrabs depicting actor Jeon Seok-ho in character.
Although admittedly less of a dead ringer than actor Rob McElhelley as Shōgun star Hitoshi Masaki — a resemblance the It’s Always Sunny star acknowledged himself last April — several fans still saw the resemblance between Mac and Woo-seok.
“Me and my wife said the same thing,” wrote DayManIn3D. “I think it’s the hair, this guys also looks small.”
To, oo-0-oo, however, the characters’ resemblance spanned well beyond their builds. “Looks like a Korean Mac to a tee, but what I found made it even more of an uncanny resemblance was his personality and behavior,” they explained. “He projected and pretended to be a tough hard-nosed guy until shit reeeally hits the fan, and then his facade of being a badass crumbles away to reveal his dependence and insecurities.”
But aside from just how much Mac and, well, Mac have in common — “In Korea they just call him Mac,” joked Crunchy-Leaf — we can only hope this uncanny resemblance will inspire It’s Always Sunny’s next crossover episode.
“‘Mac Solves the South Korea Squid Situation,’” as herberstank suggested, does have a nice ring to it.
