Florence Pough walked so that Charli XCX could run.
The “365” singer wore a very sheer Grecian-style gown to Variety’s Hitmakers Brunch Saturday and decided to accessorize it with two bold statement pieces — her exposed nipples.
Although the floor-length dress’ color appeared to be more tan than the signature chartreuse green the musician has been associated with since the release of her 2024 album “Brat” — the look embodies the energy of her hit record.
“You are just that girl, who is a little messy, and likes to party and maybe says dumb things sometimes,” Charli XCX said on TikTok in June while explaining what it means to her “to be brat.”
“Who feels like herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of like parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile. Like, does dumb things. But it’s brat. You’re brat. That’s brat.”
The “Boom Clap” singer may have also wanted to make a splash at the event because she was receiving the Hitmaker of the Year award — thanks to the success of “Brat.”
During her speech, the British musician spoke about how she thinks the expression “hitmaker” is “a very funny term” especially considering that some of the most influential albums of all time have been commercial flops.
She then used the Velvet Underground’s 1967 album, “Velvet Underground & Nico,” as an example.
“This record is one of the most influential and groundbreaking records of our time. It’s the apex of fine art and dirty culture, colliding high and low, poetry meets drugs, earnest and arrogant,” she said before referencing the album’s famous Andy Warhol banana cover. “My album cover has not yet appeared at the Guggenheim or the Whitney or the Tate. However, some of my merch is able to be purchased at Urban Outfitters. I guess that means I’m halfway there.”

Although Charli XCX’s Hitmaker outfit did echo the rebellious nature of “Velvet Underground & Nico” — plenty of female celebrities have long worn some pretty revealing outfits on the red carpet, especially in the past couple of years.
Florence Pough received an onslaught of backlash in 2022 when she showed up to a Valentino show in a totally sheer bright pink gown made by the brand. Despite the criticism she initially received, the “Midsommar” star seemed to have started a trend, and has inspired other female celebrities to rock equally chic and provocative outfits at public events, including Katy Perry and Kristen Stewart.
