Obviously, one of the best things about Thanksgiving is the food. And one of the best things about the food at Thanksgiving is the plethora of sides that are often available to eat.

Which Thanksgiving sides are the best is always a hot topic of conversation this time of year. It is also one of the most controversial topics this time of year as well. (Yes, we are looking at you, Micah Parsons).

The last time we took a closer look at America’s favorite Thanksgiving sides the top five were, supposedly, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, stuffing, green bean casserole, and cranberry sauce. All solid options, to be sure.

That, however, was way back in 2020. Have our tastes changed since the last Presidential election? (We’re still talking about Thanksgiving sides here.)

To find out, online-casinos.com asked asked 2,500 Americans who celebrate Thanksgiving to tell them about their favorite Thanksgiving sides and desserts. Here’s what they learned…

As it turns out, we still prefer mashed potatoes more than any other Thanksgiving side dish. (Bill Belichick approves.) In fact, mashed potatoes took the top spot in 19 states.

16 states, however, think stuffing is top side dish. That’s a move up of one spot, thanks to states like New York, Washington, Minnesota, and Louisiana.

Mac and cheese, as a result, drops to number three on the list. It’s still number one in the hearts of the residents of Texas, Florida, and North Carolina though.

Holding down the number four spot once again is green bean casserole, which took the top spot in states places like Illinois, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.

And coming in fifth, sorry cranberry sauce, is a new entry: sweet potato casserole. Folks in Georgia, Kansas, and Mississippi actually prefer it more than any other Thanksgiving side dish.

The rest of the side dishes to take the top spot in a state were corn casserole (2 states), creamed spinach (2), deviled eggs (2), and, dun dun dun, cranberry sauce, which was only named the best side by residents of Wyoming this year.

As far as the best Thanksgiving dessert goes, is it any surprise that pumpkin pie is number one? 37 states would say no to that.

With apple pie and pecan pie being the only other desserts mentioned, we might as well just go ahead have all three this Thanksgiving, don’t you think?
