Travis Hunter recently made use of Colorado’s bye week and joined Nick Saban on “College GameDay” to talk Heisman season.
When Travis Hunter committed to play for Deion Sanders and Jackson State, he unknowingly created a coach-versus-coach beef. Alabama head coach Nick Saban controversially accused Deion Sanders of using new NIL laws to pay Hunter, and after some back and forth, Deion and Nick buried the hatchet on ESPN.
The awkward reconciliation between them was featured on Prime Video’s “Coach Prime” series and it showcased the two of them having a tough conversation on camera.
Now, Heisman hopeful Travis Hunter has joined Nick Saban on “College Gameday” to discuss his relationship with Deion that led him to attend Jackson State, an HBCU, before following Coach Prime to Colorado.
“We have that great bond,” said Hunter. “It’s like a father and son bond. I know whenever I need something I can go and ask him, and I’m pretty sure I can get it, 100% of the time.”
Hunter also revealed that Deion Sanders rejoining Nike has also been a bonus in their father-son relationship.
“He’s a Nike guy now… So, I can’t get no Jordans off of him, but when I get to his house, I steal whatever I can,” Hunter jokes. “He’s like a father figure to me. I mean, I went to his house yesterday and whatever I wanted, he was able to just let me get it. I took it, if he didn’t want me to take it.”
We cannot exaggerate how unusual Travis Hunter’s appearance on “College Gameday” was especially since Colorado wasn’t the hosting school that week. If Coach Saban ever wanted to make up for his commitment comments on Hunter, he effectively achieved that task.
Elsewhere in the interview, Travis Hunter sported a banner with a Heisman statement campaigning for himself and Sheduer Sanders. Playing offense and defense at a high level has certainly almost locked Hunter into the race, and if Colorado ends up in the playoffs, Hunter is even closer to taking home the trophy.
Rumors suggest he will likely be the first pick in the 2025 NFL draft taken by the New England Patriots.
