Sabrina Carpenter slams critics who claim she doesn’t sing live

Sabrina Carpenter is shutting down the nonsense.

The 25-year-old clapped back at social media critics who accused her of lip-syncing on her Short n’ Sweet Tour.

After one user commented on TikTok asking if she “ever” sings live at her concerts, someone posted a clip taken from one of Carpenter’s recent performances and claimed that it proved she was lip-synching. In the video posted Tuesday, the artist is seen dancing onstage to her hit single “Please Please Please.”

“Hate to say it,” the person wrote, “30% lip singing [sic] 30% backing track 40% singing.”

But Carpenter didn’t take the speculation lightly, commenting beneath the footage, and even offered to have the user check in with the crew of her sold-out tour for confirmation.

“I sing live at every show 100%,” declared the Disney alum. “Would you like to speak to my audio engineers?”

The original poster responded to Carpenter’s remarks, saying they would like to meet with the engineers. As for what the person would like to tell the crew if she could?

“I would,” they wrote back to the superstar, “and tell them to lower the backtrack voice as its [sic] way too high.”

Although recent online comments may not have been so sweet, Carpenter is now being recognized for her hard work in a major way.

The “Espresso” singer has made this year’s TIME100 Next list, which honors rising stars of all industries and is featured on one of their three covers, per People on Tuesday.

Carpenter’s cover issue, out Friday, shows the actress donning a bright red bodysuit accessorized with an oversized bow. Carpenter smiles while throwing her hands in the air as she poses in front of green grass and a blue sky backdrop.

And fellow artist Christina Aguilera gave the “Taste” hitmaker a sweet tribute in the magazine, telling fans to “never underestimate the mighty power” behind Carpenter’s talent.

“It’s the reason she has catapulted to her earned spot as one of today’s leading pop artists. She proves great things come in small packages,” the 43-year-old penned, adding that the pair had similar starts on Disney so she understands “what it takes to maintain clarity while delivering within the demands of this business.”

Aguilera, who recently collaborated with Carpenter on a new version of her iconic song “What a Girl Wants,” continued: “Sabrina handles the task with seemingly effortless ease and charisma while promoting, performing, and handling press with a smile and her signature coy charm.”

Carpenter is set to perform at the TIME100 Next event in New York City on Oct. 9.
