Doom Flamingo have released their latest completed set of new music, a five-track EP, Measurements. After previously pulling the curtain on initial singles, “Blind Spots,” “Long Way Home,” and a take on Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” the six-headed Charleston, S.C. dynamo has filled out the collection with today’s arrival of the Ross Bogan (Wolf Mask) penned “Blind Spots” and the set’s namesake number.

True to its title, Measurements represents matured growth for the band: Kanika Moore (vocals), Ross Bogan (keyboards), Ryan Stasik (bass), Thomas Kenney (guitar), Mike Quinn (saxophone) and Sean Bing (drums). As a collective unit, the group transitions the meaning of the EP’s title into cathartic and lived motifs–culled experiences that tower and play out over a tight offering of instrumental prowess steeped in each player’s individualized expertise.

As is expected from this lot, Moore’s voice melts like butter one moment and cuts deep the next, morphing with each intentional push. On one such track, “Strange Places,” Bogan speaks to his bandmate’s motive, “I love ‘Strangest Places,’ I know Kanika was really inspired by Tina Turner and wanted to pay tribute to her after she died. I love what she did with this song. I had originally tracked piano on this one but had to switch it to DX7 to give it that 80’s Tina glossy sheen. Had a lot of fun with this one.”

“In the past we’ve been such a concept band and writing a lot through characters and genres, we’ve injected a lot of ourselves in this EP and just focused on writing good songs together,” Bogan says of the set, which arrives on streaming services today in full. In support of Doom Flamingo’s latest release, the band will bolster Measurements with an upcoming run of dates, beginning on Sept. 12 at The Recher in Towson, Md., a co-bill with SunSquabi.

The band will continue their joint billing with a follow-up at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl on Sept. 13 before concluding dates with SunSquabi after an evening on Sept. 14 at Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Doom Flamingo will then traverse the East Coast through mid-September, appearing at Burlington’s acclaimed Nectar’s venue, before hitting Boston and Philadelphia before a hometown gig on Oct. 19 at The Refinery, which will take the form of a tribute show, Queen is Doomed with Ripe and The Psycodelics.

November will see the onset of Midwest appearances, including a Nov. 9 concert at the Outset in Chicago and another pick up of co-bills with lespecial. Doom Flamingo’s final date on the calendar will take them to The National in Richmond, Va., on Nov. 30 to participate in the  9th Annual Turkey Jam with Kendall Street Company and South Hill Banks.

Tickets for Doom Flamingo’s forthcoming tour are on sale now.
