With Florida State and Georgia Tech set to kick off the 2024 college football season in Ireland, Seminoles quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei will hope to have more success than his father on Thursday. Big Dave, as he is affectionally known, was struggling to drive on the opposite side of the road.
Dublin drivers better watch out when he is behind the wheel this weekend!
D.J., a fifth-year senior, transferred to Florida State after stops at Clemson and Oregon State. Head coach Mike Norvell is fully confident in the 6-foot-4, 252-pound signal-caller’s ability to lead the offense and there are legitimate national title hopes in Tallahassee.
The run to the College Football Playoff needs to start with a win over the Yellow Jackets and Seminoles fans started to arrive in Dublin as early as Tuesday to support their team. Big Dave got there on Wednesday, ahead of the players’ arrival later that night.
The game will not kickoff until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday so the starting quarterback’s father has a few days to explore the city. He picked up a rental car to do so and it ended up being a lot harder than he thought to get the hang of things. Cars on the island of Ireland drive on the left-hand side of the road as opposed to the right in the United States. As a result, Big Dave Uiagalelei is wreaking havoc on native drivers!
He documented one of his drives on Thursday, which did not go particularly well.
Uiagalelei is not the only representative of Florida State to get confused by the flip flop. Linebacker Justin Cryer almost learned a hard lesson while walking with his teammates on the right side of the road!
The good news is that the Seminoles will not have to drive themselves. Florida State have people to chauffeur them to practice, to the hotel, etc. And as long as it isn’t Big Dave behind the wheel of the team bus, they will be just fine!
