Soccer Mommy is back to officially announce Evergreen, her fourth studio album, out October 25th via Loma Vista Recordings. She’s also shared “M,” the latest single from the album.
The project of Nashville-based singer and songwriter Sophie Allison, Soccer Mommy recruited indie connoisseur Ben H. Allen III (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Belle and Sebastian) to produce Evergreen, and recorded the album in Atlanta’s Maze Studios. Unlike her more experimental last record Sometimes, Forever, which she made with Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrixpointnever), Evergreen is a return to a more organic, contemplative sound, with acoustic guitars, lush orchestration, and raw honesty.
She originally previewed Evergreen with “Lost,” and now, Soccer Mommy picks up where she left off with the similarly wistful “M.” With acoustic and electric guitars fluttering atop a dense, reverb-heavy atmosphere, “M” is akin to the more solemn and intricate hues of Soccer Mommy’s Color Theory as well as Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher. She’s shared the song’s official visualizer as well, which features many shots of Allison in various American landscapes as she road trips throughout the country. Stream “M” below.
Soccer Mommy has a handful of festival dates coming up, including both the New York and Washington D.C. editions of All Things Go. Get tickets to see Soccer Mommy here, and revisit our 2022 interview with Sophie Allison about Sometimes, Forever.
