James Wan is a modern master of horror. The Saw, Insidious, Conjuring, and Malignant director has mostly been working on the producing side of the industry for the past few years, thanks in part to his new partnership with Blumhouse, but that hasn’t stopped him from making sure theaters are full of fun, scary films. But the director’s latest producing project will take on a different speed as he brings his new series Teacup to Peacock.
The series had a panel at this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, where the first details about its particular brand of spookiness were revealed, along with the series’ premiere teaser trailer.

There isn’t much going on in this teaser — it’s mostly an eerie teacup rotating, with various scenes depicted in red paint around the edges. This doesn’t give us too much of a preview of the show, an adaptation of Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger. The book centers on a small group of people who get trapped in rural Georgia and are forced to survive a harrowing, mysterious threat.
Teacup is set to star Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Scott Speedman (Grey’s Anatomy), and Chaske Spencer (Echo). Based on the panel, it doesn’t seem like Wan will be directing the show, but he will be an executive producer. Instead, the show will be directed by E.L. Katz, who previously worked on Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Bly Manor. While this seems to be the most direct involvement Wan has ever been with a TV show, it isn’t his first time producing one. He also executive produced a Swamp Thing series for DC, the 2016 MacGyver reboot, and Archive 81, along with Michael Clear, who is back for Teacup.
Teacup is set to debut on Peacock on Oct. 10.
