Every second counts, especially now that when The Bear Season 3 is right around the corner. Diehard fans of the show wait with bated breath to reunite with Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto and his chaotic crew at The Bear. The culinary dramedy starring Jeremy Allen White first graced screens in 2022 and skyrocketed to fame almost immediately. It’s a show that leaves you salivating for more as you digest each episode — so, getting greenlit for Season 3 was a surprise to none (the recent Season 4 being filmed back-to-back with Season 3 was definitely a good surprise though). Plus, since The Bear has picked up a sweep of awards, including Six Primetime Emmys, it’s safe to say that this show is a work of sheer directorial prowess and impeccable storytelling.
The Bear showcases the journey of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), who leaves his role as Chef de Cuisine at the world’s best restaurant to run the family sandwich shop he inherited following his brother’s suicide. The show takes us through Carmen’s struggle to fill his dead brother’s shoes while he must come to terms with his new reality. The major themes explored in the show are the sinking business, the recalcitrant staff, and Carmy’s complicated relationship with his family. Best described as a high-anxiety entertainer, the aspect of tenderness and the idea of family leaves viewers with a lingering feeling of warmth. This guide details everything you need to know about The Bear Season 3.
When Is The Bear Season 3’s Release Date?
Production of The Bear Season 3 officially kicked off on February 26th, 2024. As FX chairman John Landgraf confirmed, the new season will be released in June of this year. He also suggested that all episodes of Season 3 would drop in one go — given the show’s anxiety-inducing nature — it was only fair to the viewers to let them binge-enjoy the show to the fullest.
Though undisclosed, we can expect the show to have 8 to 10 episodes this season, keeping it short and sweet as usual to stick to their signature concise storytelling. Additionally, a little birdie in the form of showrunner Christopher Storer tells us that core cast member Ayo Edebiri is expected to serve as an “important set of fresh eyes” behind the camera. It has also been recently reported that The Bear Season 4 is also in the works and it will closely follow the release of The Bear Season 3 — although exact details have yet to be unveiled.
What to Expect From Carmy and Gang in The Bear Season 3
The plot line for The Bear Season 3 will likely be similar to the first season —, taking us back to the functioning kitchen environment that viewers know and love. This is because The Bear Season 2 was structured around the renovation of The Original Beef of Chicagoland into chefs Carmy and Sydney’s vision of a fine dining restaurant and the drama that ensued. Seasons 1 and 2 were wildly different from each other, with the latter involving the characters’ individual growth and flashbacks from Carmy’s past.
The last episode of The Bear Season 2, “Family and Friends Night,” also left a lot of loose ends that need to be tied up. Not to mention seeing Carmy trapped in a walk-in fridge all through the big opening night of The Bear, with subsequent events leading to tensions between him and his girlfriend, Claire (Molly Gordon). We expect to get answers on the status of their relationship in the upcoming installment and of course, whether he was able to get out or not!
Viewers also witnessed Sydney throwing up repeatedly as a result of being the torchbearer of all the pressure after the end of service on opening night. The state of Sydney’s mental health and how that affects her abilities as a sous chef is an arch that fans are curious to see in The Bear Season 3. So in a nutshell, we’re going to witness the fruits of all the labor involved in the restaurant upgrade and how it changes the trajectories of relationships among the “Family” at The Bear in the next installment!
The Bear Season 3 Cast: Who Is Set to Return?
The Bear Season 3 will see all regular cast members return, with the dynamic duo of Jeremy Allen White as Carmen and Ayo Edebiri as sous-chef Sydney reprising their roles. We can also expect to see the rest of The Bear family, which includes Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richie, Abby Elliott as Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto, Matty Matheson as Neil Fak, Lionel Boyce as Marcus, Liza Colón-Zayas as Tina, Edwin Lee Gibson as Ebra and others. Oliver Platt as Uncle Jimmy and Chris Witaske, who plays Natalie’s husband, are likely to be spotted as well. Molly Gordon, who plays Carmy’s girlfriend Claire, will also return.
Audiences also hope to see snippets of Jon Bernthal, who appears as the siblings’ deceased brother, Michael. We are uncertain but hopeful for the return of guest stars from Season 2, such as Olivia Coleman, Will Poulter, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Mulaney — the list goes on. Although in typical The Bear fashion, we can anticipate a plethora of all-new guest cameos in the upcoming season as well!
Set Images of The Bear Season 3 Hint Bad News
Recent images from set of The Bear tease a funeral with a group of main characters dressed in black standing in front of a church. The images suggest the death of a character — potentially Marcus’ terminally ill mother. The Bear Season 2 opened with a scene of him moisturizing her hands while he took care of her, making it a thematically important role.
After a successful friends-and-family night at the restaurant, Marcus misses numerous frantic calls and texts from his mother’s nurse. It was implied that Marcus’ mother passed away during the restaurant’s opening night, though not stated explicitly. We look forward to witnessing intimate moments between characters as they come together to support their friend. You may also want to check out this excellent stand-alone episode from The Bear.
