Travis Kelce was in attendance at Game 1 of the World Series between the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks, but the reason is not entirely clear. The 34-year-old Chiefs tight end is from Ohio and plays in Kansas City. His brother plays for Philadelphia.
Neither the Royals, Reds, Guardians, nor Phillies were playing on Friday night.
To make things even more confusing, the Chiefs play the Broncos in Denver on Sunday. The baseball game was in Arlington, Texas.
Why was Travis Kelce there?
Maybe Kelce is just a big baseball fan and wanted to watch the first World Series game at Globe Life Field. Perhaps he has friends on the Rangers or Diamondbacks.
Regardless of the motive, Kelce was at the game. Whomever was in charge of the in-stadium video took notice.
Travis Kelce didn’t appear to enjoy the attention.
At some point during the night, the camera cut to Kelce on the jumbotron as Taylor Swift’s song ‘Shake It Off’ played over the loudspeaker. Although he embraced the spotlight at first and danced along to his girlfriend’s music, he appeared to signal to the cameraperson to cut away.
It was a subtle gesture that could be entirely misconstructed. However, around the seven-second mark in the video below, there appeared to be a low-key “cut it out” hand signal, where Kelce waved his hand over his neck as if to say “that’s enough, move on.”
The cameraperson/producer did not get the memo.
If Kelce does not want to be featured on the videoboard, he simply should not attend a game to which he has seemingly no ties. Maybe that’s not what he was doing, but it sure looked like it.
Not long after his appearance at the stadium, a separate video went viral and showed Kelce dancing at bar — either at the stadium or elsewhere in Dallas — to another Taylor Swift track. He was filming a selfie video, which may or may not have been for his beau.
Kelce’s entire night was rather confusing from a logistics standpoint. Will he get on a plan to Denver? Are the Chiefs not concerned with the Broncos?
Putting all of that aside, Kelce was up early on Saturday for a haircut. No concerns there.
