To celebrate E.T. the Extraterrestrial‘s 40th anniversary this year, bicycle manufacturer Kuwahara is re-releasing Elliott’s iconic ride. They even recreated the promotional poster from 1982 when they sold versions of the bike as a tie-in to the movie. Some of the classic Steven Spielberg film’s most famous scenes show off the bicycle’s power of flight. But that’s not a feature of this model. Maybe that will be ready in time for the 50th anniversary.
The bicycle also doesn’t come with a milk crate or alien companion. You’ll have to bring your own. It’ll set you back $800 and goes on sale fall 2022. Based on this supercut of the movie’s bike scenes, it seems it can accommodate adult riders too. While the close-ups are of the child actors, all the sweet jumps and other maneuvers to evade the authorities are clearly done by the film’s adult stunt performers.
Whether you love the movie or, like John Oliver, can’t stand the ending, the bike stunts are certainly one of the most memorable parts. And now you can try them out for yourself. And introduce the wonder to a whole new generation.
There’s plenty of nostalgia for E.T. leading up to its 40th anniversary. The film opened this year’s film festival from Turner Classic Movies. Elliott and his alien friend even reunited for an Xfinity commercial a few years ago.
We learned about the promotion from Gamespot. For anyone nostalgic for an ’80s childhood spent riding bikes, this is the perfect gift. Or you could just watch Stranger Things, season 4 is coming soon!
