Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie premiered on July 21, and with it an excuse to splurge on all the new Barbie merchandise. From the beginning, we’ve been embracing our “Kenergy” – we even tracked down Ken’s Rollerblades and Eva Mendes’s Ryan Gosling “Barbie” shirt. In the spirit of the iconic doll, brands have released official Barbie collaborations, giving the average Barbie fan every reason to indulge in an all-pink shopping spree.
As the original material girl living in a material world, Barbie knows what to shop for when it comes to clothes, shoes, jewelry, accessories, and even home decor – after all, the Barbie Dreamhouse didn’t furnish itself. Mattel, fittingly, released an entire collection of Barbie merch, including sweatshirts, bucket hats, Kencore T-shirts, hoodies, and more. Forever 21 also unveiled a clothing collection inspired by the multi-hyphenate. The line includes bedazzled baby tees, co-ord sets, dresses, sequin jerseys, shorts, sweats, tube tops, beaded friendship bracelets, hair clips, and jewelry. There’s even a pair of jelly sandals if you really want to let your inner child bask in the fluorescent-pink trend.
Brands like Boohoo, PacSun, Unique Vintage, and even small Etsy shops have put a Barbiecore (and Kencore) spin on some of our favorite items: rompers, drinkware (Barbie martini glass, anyone?), sunglasses, headbands, and every kind of sartorial Barbie reference you can imagine. Some shops have even released “I Am Kenough” hoodies and sweatshirts inspired by an unforgettable scene in the film. Basically, there’s enough pink merch out there to furnish our closets, kitchens, and entire homes.
We’d like to think Barbara would have a “what’s mine is yours” policy when it comes to her closet, and it seems like all of the Barbie merch available so far could be straight from her personal style catalogue. As we watch Margot Robbie bring the classic doll to life on screen, shop your own Barbiecore wardrobe and our favorite home decor finds ahead.
