Indie singer/songwriter Ronny Tibbs releases a haunting, vintage-inspired track from his new EP Shorthand.
‘Little Beating Heart’ takes its roots from a profound personal experience for Tibbs— the death of Tom Petty, an artist who greatly influenced him. Tibbs crafted the track using “cowboy chords” and designed each element with simplicity and emotion. The minimalism of the chords allows space for the song’s centerpiece: a meticulously layered percussion arrangement that’s simultaneously simple and complex, bringing an intriguing dimension to the track.
Reflecting on the song’s inspiration, Tibbs noted:
“His ability to combine meaningful lyrics with upbeat melodies using simple ‘cowboy chords’ inspired me. This song was built on that same foundation, with chords played in the first position. We wanted to be very specific with the approach to the separate parts. Because the song’s chords were so simple, we aimed to create more interest in the track by making the drums both simple yet complex.”
‘Little Beating Heart’ exemplifies Tibbs’ journey as an artist, one driven by rich storytelling and a passion for exploring new emotional and creative landscapes.
