Pavement have announced a new reissue of the 1999 Spit on a Stranger EP. It gets released as a 12″ vinyl record on April 8—the same day as Matador’s deluxe reissue of Terror Twilight. To go with the announcement, the band has shared a new video for “Harness Your Hopes,” starring Yellowjackets’ Sophie Thatcher, who recreates Stephen Malkmus & co.’s looks from various vintage Pavement videos. The new visual is directed by Alex Ross Perry of Her Smell fame. Watch below.
The original Spit on a Stranger EP was released via CD and included the title track, as well as four other previously unreleased songs, including “Harness Your Hopes.” The new reissue will feature a sixth song—a live version of “Harness Your Hopes” from a 1999 show at London’s Brixton Academy. “Harness Your Hopes” has been one of Pavement’s most popular songs on Spotify, and, in 2020, the track went viral on TikTok, registering tens of millions of plays.
On Yellowjackets, Sophie Thatcher plays a teenage version of Juliette Lewis’ character Natalie. Read “Inside the ’90s Alt-Rock Sound of Yellowjackets, the Most Thrilling Show on TV Right Now” on the Pitch. Plus, check out the new feature interview “Juliette Lewis on the Music That Made Her.”
