Matty Healy Gets Engaged After Taylor Swift ‘TTPD’ Album Shade

Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel are engaged. The model sparked rumors after posting a photo of a black diamond ring on her wedding finger. However, Healy’s mother confirmed the news, noting her happiness.

Fans had mixed reactions to Healy’s engagement, as it comes after he seemingly shaded his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift‘s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel, who have been together since September 2023, have made several public appearances, including meeting the singer’s family.

Bechtel recently ignited engagement rumors by posting an Instagram photo featuring a £10,000 black diamond ring on her wedding finger. The 26-year-old model and singer tagged Healy’s account in the caption and wrote, “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT @trumanblack.”

In another post, Bechtel flaunted her ring again in a mirror selfie, though it was now on her right hand. She shared this while attending Charli XCX’s concert, showcasing a daring outfit of a strapless black mini dress, knee-high boots, and a black strapped choker, notably going braless.

To add to the speculations, Healy reposted the image on his own account, hinting at their potential engagement following their nine-month whirlwind romance since they first went public with their romance in September 2023. Healy reportedly bought the $10,800 engagement ring at a vintage liquidation sale.

Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, has since confirmed her son’s engagement to Bechtel on the morning show, “Loose Women.”

“I have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged … They went over to see their friends Charli and George in New York, and I woke up this morning to the fact they’ve put it on Instagram. Instagram official … he’s got engaged to Gabriella Bechtel — Gabbriette she’s known as. Black diamond; he had it made for her,” Welch said on the UK talk show, per People Magazine.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled. We couldn’t be happier — she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law. I’m thrilled,” she added.

According to a recent Us Weekly report, Healy finds his former girlfriend Taylor Swift’s new album, “Hilarious,” despite being “blindsided” by her writing about their brief romance.

A friend of The 1975’s frontman discussed how he felt about it after fans speculated that some of the songs on the album alluded to Swift’s short time with Healy.

“He loves the attention it’s brought to him, [but] he also thinks it’s hilarious because at no time [were they] ever serious,” the alleged friend told the news outlet.

Healy’s friend also clarified that some of the lyrics suggesting Swift and Healy had discussed having children and living together weren’t true, stating, “It had never even come up.”

He added that although Healy felt “completely blindsided” by TTPD’s “lyrical content,” the singer is “taking it in stride.”

After Bechtel’s post about her speculated engagement, fans flooded X (formerly Twitter) with reactions. Some were thrilled, with one commenting, “I was waiting for this to happen but still got jumpscared by the notification,” and another saying, “This is such a vibe omfg.”

A third fan said, “I told my mom I had a feeling he would marry Gabbriette. I feel like she’s the one he’s gonna stay with, and damn, was I right.” Another added, “This is my royal marriage. I can’t believe itttttt. They look so good together. I hope it works out for them both and they are happy. “

However, not everyone was positive about the proposal. One user slammed Healy, writing, “I’m sorry for the girl. Imagine getting married to a man who didn’t measure up in any measure of a man.”

Another commented, “The ring is gorgeous, but being married to Matty Healy sounds like a nightmare to me.”

A third added, “I wanted so much better for her….. she’s too good for him. Her face card can buy the whole solar system.”

Healy and Bechtel have been linked since September 2023, two months after his June split from Swift. At the time, the couple were seen sharing a steamy PDA in New York City. Since then, Healy and Bechtel have made numerous public appearances, including Fashion Week and The 1975’s concerts.

After five months of dating, The 1975 frontman introduced Bechtel to his parents, Denise Welch and Tim Healy. According to the Daily Mail, the new couple attended Welch’s “The Gap” show in Manchester before meeting the rock star’s family, including his brother, Louis.

Healy’s mom, Welch, shared a photo on Instagram with the caption: “Lovely to have the family in to see mum at work!!! @hopemilltheatre #thegap [heart emojis].”

Welch had also interacted with Bechtel online. In October 2023, the model posted a photo in a leather apron and matching thong, to which Denise humorously replied: “That’s exactly how I hope to look in mine when it arrives!!”
