While Academy Award winner Brad Pitt has re-entered movie star mode in recent years, he had spent much of the previous decade being a shrew Hollywood producer.
Prior to his Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor, Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment produced *three* Best Picture winners: The Departed (2006), 12 Years a Slave (2013), and Moonlight (2016). In addition to those films, Plan B has also produced films such as Troy, Eat, Pray, Love, World War Z, The Tree of Life, Moneyball, Selma, The Big Short, and many more.
One of Plan B’s latest films is Blonde, the upcoming NC-17-rated Netflix film about Marilyn Monroe that stars Ana de Armas in the lead role. Set to premiere in September, the film has already made tons of headlines given its rare and risque NC-17 rating and the initial reaction some fans have had to de Armas’ accent in the first trailer.
During a recent interview while promoting Bullet Train, though, Pitt — who, as a producer, has obviously seen the film — sang de Armas’ praises and implied she’s the reason the film even got made in the first place.
Brad Pitt says Ana de Armas is “phenomenal” as Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming Netflix movie Blonde
“She is phenomenal in it,” Pitt said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “That’s a tough dress to fill. It was 10 years in the making. It wasn’t until we found Ana that we could get it across the finish line.”
In addition to de Armas, Blonde stars Adrien Brody (as Arthur Miller), Bobby Cannavale (as Joe DiMaggio), and Julianne Nicholson (as Gladys Pearl Baker, Monroe’s mother). The movie is helmed by filmmaker Andrew Dominik, who also directed The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Killing Them Softly.
Blonde will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September before it hits Netflix on Friday, September 23.
