The Orchard acquires dance distributor and label services company Above Board.
Technology-driven distribution and services organization The Orchard has acquired UK electronic dance company Above Board, giving Above Board access to The Orchard’s full suite of global distribution, artist, and label services. Above Board has played an integral role in developing electronic acts like Peggy Gou, Charlotte de Witte, Patrick Topping, Jamie Jones, and Maceo Plex.
The Orchard’s infrastructure will enhance Above Board’s already robust service offerings, including cutting-edge technology and supply chain, digital and physical distribution, analytics, business development opportunities, advertising, publishing administration, neighboring rights, and global reach with teams operating in 45 territories worldwide.
Founder and Managing Director of Above Board, Dan Hill, will continue to sign and develop global dance and electronic talent for Above Board, adding to The Orchard’s roster as the company grows its global footprint in the genre.
“The Above Board team is excited about this new chapter of our company, and we are now fully immersed into The Orchard’s ecosystem,” says Dan Hill. “The new relationship gives Above Board the global infrastructure and resources to match our artists’ and labels’ ambition, plus gives them the platform to ensure they retain the rights to their music.”
“We are delighted to welcome Dan and his team to The Orchard. Their standing and experience in this genre of music are second to none. It was crucial to The Orchard that we partnered with a company entirely immersed in the culture of house music,” adds Ian Dutt, Managing Director at The Orchard.
“Collectively, we want to make a positive impact in this space by providing exciting and future-facing options for producer and DJ-owned independent labels globally. The importance of this sector is often overlooked in conversations addressing the power of independent music. We want to change that narrative.”
“Dan and Above Board’s roster bring unparalleled expertise to The Orchard’s growing dance/electronic music division,” concludes Prashant Bahadur, The Orchard’s EVP, Head of Strategy. “Having them in-house will benefit our existing clients in the genre as well as serve as a vital resource as we develop new strategies to elevate our presence in this vibrant sector.”
