French shoegaze art-pop trio Tapeworms have unveiled their latest single, ‘Playground,’ the first taste of their upcoming album Grand Voyage, set for release on April 11 via Music Website and P-Vine. The track expands its sonic palette with a blend of glitchy textures, sugary synths, and a dreamlike sense of escapism.

‘Playground’ thrives on an eclectic mix of MIDI drums, bit-crushed synths, and SEGA-inspired sound effects, creating an atmosphere that’s both nostalgic and surreal. The song captures the carefree essence of childhood, using the metaphor of a playground as a space where imagination runs wild and fears are confronted. As Tapeworms have explored in previous singles like ‘IRL’ and ‘Puzzle,’ the track continues their theme of embracing fantasy while navigating the uncertainties of adulthood.

The song is accompanied by a visually striking music video, filmed by band members Margot Magnière and Théo Poyer as they explored Tokyo’s playgrounds with a mini-DV camera. The result is a dreamlike collage of fragmented memories, evoking the warm yet distant haze of childhood home videos.

With Grand Voyage, Tapeworms promise a sonic journey that blends electro-pop, shoegaze, and experimental textures into a vibrant, otherworldly experience. If ‘Playground’ is any indication, the album will be a thrilling ride through memory, movement, and music’s power to transcend time.
