Anishinaabe post-punk band Ribbon Skirt introduces their upcoming album Bite Down with the release of their latest single ‘Wrong Planet,’ accompanied by a visually arresting music video. The album, due April 11 via Mint Records, promises a deeply emotional exploration of identity, belonging, and resilience.

‘Wrong Planet’ is a visceral and raw track that dives into the dissonance of feeling like an outsider in your own world. Tashiina Buswa’s aching vocals—“I think I don’t love you / I really love you”—paint a vivid picture of emotional conflict. The song builds on these lyrical tensions with an explosive outro reverberating with cathartic release. Shot in a vibrant prom dress store on Montreal’s St. Hubert Plaza, the video’s setting mirrors the song’s dichotomy, creating a surreal space where chaos and restraint coexist. Shimmering gowns and flickering lights form a backdrop for Buswa’s performance, blurring the lines between escape and entrapment.

Buswa explains the essence of the song through its video:

“It’s the feeling of being stuck in a world that you fundamentally don’t fit into, and weighing the decision of whether to perform a different version of yourself to fit in.”

Out now, ‘Wrong Planet’ showcases the band’s ability to fuse post-punk intensity with cultural storytelling, creating a deeply resonant and transformative listening experience.
