THE co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala have been announced.
The iconic event takes place on the first Monday in May at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Zendaya, and Chris Hemsworth will be the A-list Hollywood stars serving as co-chairs.
They will stand alongside Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and honorary chairs Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Chew.
Anna has been spearheading the Met Gala since 1995 and helped it become one of the most prestigious gatherings in fashion and entertainment.
The event will be held on May 6, marks Hemsworth’s debut on the Met Gala red carpet, while Bad Bunny returns for his third appearance, Zendaya with her sixth, and J. Lo her 14th.
However, fans were left confused and angry at the “random” decision to announce the Thor actor to be a co-chair at the glamorous event.
‘ALL HIS LOOKS ARE THE SAME’
“Chris Hemsworth is so random lmao,” one person pointed out.
A second said, “I was gonna say like, nothing against Chris Hemsworth, but since when was he a guy known for fashion?”
“I can’t remember a single one of his past looks,” a third admitted.
A fourth responded to the comment above, “He’s the representative for men in black suits.”
“All his looks are the same,” someone else wrote.
A sixth stated, “He’s better known for being shirtless.”
Another person commented, “As everyone else has said, Hemsworth is a weird choice. If they really wanted one of the Chrises, Pine is more stylish [in my opinion.]
THE TASKS OF BEING A MET GALA CO-CHAIR
Met Gala co-chairs basically function as the faces of the event.
They will assist in promoting and publicizing it through various means, including interviews and social media.
They are also tasked to help with fundraising, as well as welcoming guests.
While what happens at the Met Gala often remains behind closed doors, there may also be a chance that the co-chairs take center stage with performances during the event.
Past celebs who were previous co-chairs include Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Timothee Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin Manuel Miranda.
MET GALA THEME EXPLANATION
The 2024 Met Gala is centered on The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
Per a press release from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the theme is meant to “reactivate the sensory capacities of masterworks in the Museum’s collection through first-hand research, conservation analysis, and diverse technologies—from cutting-edge tools, artificial intelligence, and computer-generated imagery to traditional formats of x-rays, video animation, light projection, and soundscapes.”
“Approximately 250 objects spanning four centuries will be on view, visually united by iconography related to nature, which will serve as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion.”
Meanwhile, the dress code is in alignment with the theme.
Guests are expected to come in ensembles that embody “The Garden of Time,” which is inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name.
Fans can look forward to celebrities donning costumes adorned with florals and vibrant colors.
“It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” Andrew Bolton, Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, shared with Vogue.
“One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.”
