Each year, the Met Gala has a specific theme that celebs adhere to.
The 2024 Met Gala will focus on The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
Per a press release from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the theme is meant to “reactivate the sensory capacities of masterworks in the Museum’s collection through first-hand research, conservation analysis, and diverse technologies—from cutting-edge tools, artificial intelligence, and computer-generated imagery to traditional formats of x-rays, video animation, light projection, and soundscapes.”
“Approximately 250 objects spanning four centuries will be on view, visually united by iconography related to nature, which will serve as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion.”

Guests are expected to come in ensembles that embody “The Garden of Time,” which is inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name.
Attendees who adhere to the dress code could be seen in costumes embellished with florals and vibrant colors.
“It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” Andrew Bolton, Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, shared with Vogue.
“One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.”
Which celebrities are co-chairing this year’s event?
In addition to a changing theme, the Met also appoints an array of co-chairs from different creative backgrounds to be the face of the event.
The co-chairs of The Costume Institute 2024 event is set to be Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny, and Jennifer Lopez.
The four will join Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who has been spearheading the Met Gala since 1995 and helped it become one of the most prestigious gatherings in fashion and entertainment.
Additionally, Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew will serve as honorary chairs.
The 2024 Met Gala will mark Hemsworth’s debut on the Met Gala red carpet, while Bad Bunny returns for his third appearance, Zendaya with her sixth, and J. Lo her 14th.

The 2024 Met Gala is set to premiere on May 6, 2024.
The Red Carpet event will commence at 6 pm ET on Vogue’s website, and Gwendoline Christie, La La Anthony, and Ashley Graham will be the event’s hosts.
It’ll also be broadcast live across Vogue’s social media platforms.
